- Players. 3 players. Each has a fixed target number of tricks: dealer 5, next player 8, third player 3.
- Deal. 16 cards each from a 52-card deck. The 4 left over form a kitty; the bottom of the kitty fixes trump for this simplified version.
- Play. Standard trick-taking. Follow suit if possible; trump beats non-trump.
- Score. Tricks taken minus target. Negative if you fell short.
- Simplified. The full game includes kitty pickup + 4-card discard. This v1 omits that step.
